Drug Uses
Dapsone is used for treatment of leprosy. It can be used in combination with other medications. It is also used to treat dermatitis herpetiformis (extremely itchy groups of skin lesions, regularly occurring on the elbows, knees, and scalp). It can also be used for other situations as determined by your doctor.
How Taken
Use Dapsone as ordered by your physician. Take Dapsone on an empty stomach. If stomach upset occurs, you may take it with meal to reduce stomach irritation. If you also take didanosine, do not take it within 2 hours before or after taking Dapsone. To clear up your infection absolutely, take Dapsone for the full course of curing. Keep using it even if you feel better in a few days. Dapsone works best if it is taken at the same time daily.
Additional Information
Dapsone may cause blurred vision. Take Dapsone with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you respond to this medication. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your physician. Dapsone should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Do not take less or more or take it more often than ordered by your doctor.
