When Tara Mae Jackson came to VR, she did not like to socialize with others. Her severe anxiety made it difficult to walk to the end of her driveway to get the mail. She credits VR with helping her learn to “come out of her shell” and self-advocate. In addition to job readiness training, VR also helped her obtain her driver’s license, GED, and Career Readiness Certificate.

The skills she developed combined with her motivation and determination led to Jackson becoming employed as a Job Readiness Training Associate at VR’s Gaffney Training Center.

The Gaffney Training Center packs/repacks all incoming parts to Freightliner Custom Chassis for warehousing until they are needed for assembly. Using a pick-to-light system, VR consumers kit and sequence parts into totes and carts which are transported to Freightliner for assembly on their production line. VR supplies all four Freightliner production lines using just-in-time and just-in-sequence delivery methods. The Training Center also works closely with Freightliner to implement 5S, Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methodologies and processes to continuously improve production and reduce errors.
