HBD Thermoid in Elgin was recognized at the recent annual meeting of the S.C. Vocational Rehabilitation Association, a support organization for the S.C. Vocational Rehabilitation Department (VR), which prepares and assists eligible South Carolinian with disabilities to achieve and maintain competitive employment.
In August Jeff Mang, Plant Manager, as keynote speaker for a Business Partnership Network meeting in the Camden VR office, told more than 40 business and community leaders that Thermoid has hired ten percent of its workforce through VR’s Skilled Workforce Apprenticeship Training program.
The skilled positions VR clients serve in range from shipping and receiving clerks to machine operators. One VR client has even been cross-trained in every part of the Thermoid facility and now serves in a lead role that provides guidance and support anywhere in the plant.
