When Makeela Puckett came to VR's Greenwood Office in 2018, she was going through a difficult time in her life, struggling with anxiety and depression, and a period of unemployment.

Shelia Reynolds, her counselor, provided Makeela with supportive guidance and helped her set achievable goals. In the Training Center, Makeela improved her soft skills through attending employment classes. These experiences helped build her confidence and hone her employability skills. When VR received a call from GLEAMNS, a workforce partner agency that was looking for a suitable candidate to fill an opening in their office, Makeela was a perfect match. She was ready to re-enter the workforce, and everyone on Makeela’s team was excited when she was offered the full-time position.

Makeela began working for GLEAMNS Human Resources Commission in February of 2019 as a WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) Youth Program Assistant. She loves working in the human services field, and—having received services herself—will be able to share her personal journey to help others.

Makeela plans to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services and her long-term goal is to earn a Master’s degree in Counseling so that she can help others struggling to overcome barriers to their personal success.
